1. Title / Chapter

The online Municipal Code is divided into Titles, Chapters and Sections.

To find the information you are looking for, you may type in a word or words by clicking the "search option." This will group related sections throughout the code into one listing. Once you locate the section that is relevant to your needs, you can click on it, or you may want to return to that Title and/or Chapter to view other related documents.

Title - Titles 1 through 18 are by subject.
Chapter - break down the Titles into more specific categories.
Sections - list the individual laws, rules and regulations.

Note: the information in parentheses at the end of each section indicates, in descending order, Ordinances that have affected that section of the code (e.g., (Ord.5222 §1, 1991; Ord. 5164 §6, 1991; Ord. 5056 §1, 1989; Ord.3988 §1, 1976; Ord. 3957 §4(E), 1976)).

The Ordinance listing (Ord. 3957 §4(E), 1976) reflects the following:

Ord. = Ordinance number
§ = Section number of ordinance
(E) = Letter listed under referenced section
1976 = Year ordinance passed

Note: Some Titles/Chapters/Sections have been repealed and rewritten, therefore historical information related to passed ordinances may not be reflected.

2. Scrollable Title/Chapter

Single click on + Title, then single click on Chapter. This view allows you to open all titles/chapters and scroll down without having to click "Next Page." Double-click any section to open it.

3. Printable Chapters

Click on + to open Title, click on the underlined section below the Title Contents (01.01.020 Title-Chapter-Section) to view/print entire chapter.

Note: Effective November, 2008: PDF Printable updates of our Municipal Codebook will no longer be provided on our website. The most recent "updated" version of the Codebook can be obtained by using the Printable Chapters option.

Important: If a graphic is in color (maps, etc.), be sure to print in color, otherwise you may lose some detail if printed in black and white.

4. Ordinances - Passed

View/open/print Ordinances 1991 to present.

Note: Effective November, 2008: Any ordinance passed by the Olympia City Council after November 3, 2008 that affects the Municipal Codebook will no longer be posted on our Municipal Codebook website. Copies of these ordinances will now have to be requested from the City Clerk's Office by contacting us at 360.753.8325 or by making a records request at cityclerk@ci.olympia.wa.us .
