Recently completed items:

  • Plans for both the Station and Training Center are complete.
  • Land Use approval has been granted for both projects. This was a big hurdle to clear. Both projects had to be approved before any more work could be done. To gain this approval, a full set of plans with a detailed description of the intended uses had to be submitted.
  • Application for building permits on the Fire Station project have been submitted.

Items about to be completed:

  • With Land Use on the Fire Training Center completed, we can now move forward and close on the Home Depot property purchase. There were a number of hurdles in the contract such as receiving Land Use approval, agreeing on the restrictive covenants and approval of the concept by Home Depot. All of these items had to be resolved before we could complete the purchase; closing is expected by November 30, 2009.
  • Sale of the $16.5 million dollars of bonds to fund the apparatus, Fire Training Center, and the Fire Station projects. The funding will be available to use on December 1, 2009. Up to this point, we have funded our work via a loan from the City.
  • Application for building permits on the Fire Training Center project will be submitted.
  • Contracts for the Engines and Ladder Truck are nearly complete. We will be making a chassis payment to Pierce before the end of the year and our vehicles will begin construction.
  • Detailed design review for the Fire station will be completed. This project has to have final approval from the Design Review Board, a panel of citizens and builders that will look at the outside materials, texture and design before we can build the station. We met with them for preliminary design review in the summer. Detailed design review is the final step in this process. There is no design review required for the Fire Training Center.
  • Completion of bid documents for both projects so that they can be approved by the City and go out to bid at the end of the year. This part of the project is well underway.

Schedule for 2010:

  • Send out bids for both projects; late 2009 for the Fire Station, January 2010 for the Fire Training Center.
  • Open bids for Station 4, February 2010.
  • Open bids for Fire Training Center, end of February 2010.

Begin construction on both projects, April 2010.

Open Station 4, April 1, 2011.

Open the Fire Training Center, Summer of 2011.
