Plans and Studies - Traffic Counts
Have you ever wondered what those little black hoses across the road are?
Well, they are traffic counters. The City of Olympia uses automatic traffic data recorders to collect daily traffic counts on many roads throughout the City. Traffic counts are conducted on a reguarly scheduled basis at many key locations, while other locations are counted for studies or upon request.
What is the information used for? Traffic count information is used primarly to monitor roadway use and changes in traffic volumes or patterns. Counts are used by staff when developing plans for new or improved roadways. Traffic count information can also be useful to developers and business owners who want to locate their business in a high-traffic location.
Where can I find traffic count information? View the lastest traffic count report. Counts for this report are average daily traffic (ADT), typically for a three-day period of midweek days.
How do I read the report? View instructions on how to read traffic count data.
