Have a WATER WISE Kitchen

There are several ways you can save water in the kitchen. Here are some top water saving tips:

Install a faucet aerator in your kitchen:  Faucet aerators are available free for City of Olympia sewer customers. To request a water saving kit that includes a kitchen faucet aerator, e-mail us or (360) 753-4444, ext. 8390.  If email be sure to include your:

  • Name
  • Address
  • Daytime phone number

Fix leaky faucets:  Did you know? If your faucet is dripping at a rate of one drop per second, you can expect to waste 2,700 gallons per year.

Don't keep running the water: Keep a pitcher of drinking water in the refrigerator so you don't have to run the tap for cold water.  Did you know that this can also help with reducing the taste of chlorine

Don't install or use an in-sink garbage disposal; instead, try composting organic wastes like vegetables and coffee grounds.  Did you know? You can sign up for organics at the curb.

Clean your vegetables in a pan rather than under a faucet. Use the leftover water on your plants.

Only run your dishwasher when it is full.  Did you know? Running a full dishwasher uses less water than washing by hand.

Consider installing an instant hot water heater on your kitchen sink so you don't have to let the water run while it heats up.

Check faucets, pipes, fittings, and washers for leaks; fix them when you find them.
