The Basics of Organics
What is Organics?
Organics is a term used to describe materials (waste products) that can be composted into a soil-like product. It includes yard debris, all food waste and food-soiled paper products.

Cart Sizes Available for Organics:
We have two cart sizes available.
- Our original and standard size is 95 gallons. If you are disposing of yard waste, we highly recommend this size.
- A smaller 35-gallon cart is available for households who have little yard waste, or only food waste, food-soiled paper and occasional floral trimmings.
Can a resident choose to have either yard waste or organics collection?
No, the City’s yard waste service became the new organics collection program with food scraps and food-soiled paper included. Customers can choose what to put in from the list of acceptable items.
Can I put my food in plastic bags and then put it in the organics cart?
No. Plastic bags are not compostable and are a contaminant. You will risk turning an entire load of compostable material into garbage if you use plastic bags. You can purchase special compostable bags online or at many local stores.
