Thurston Community Television (TCTV) is a non-profit agency that manages local public, education and government (PEG) cable television access on contract with the City of Olympia and other local jurisdictions. Olympia also contracts with TCTV to provide staff and professional assistance to televise City Council meetings and develop informational videos and programs. For 2006, Olympia will pay TCTV about $106,000 for its services.
As allowed by current federal law, public access to cable television facilities and air time is a benefit of the franchise agreements that Olympia, Lacey, Tumwater, and Thurston County have negotiated with Comcast. Comcast currently provides the TCTV studio and administrative facility on Yauger Way per terms of the City's franchise agreement and a monthly cash contribution to the City for PEG equipment and other capital expenses.
The TCTV channels in Olympia are Cable Channel 3 - Government and Education programming; and Channel 22 - public programming.
Membership Criteria
The Olympia City Council designates one citizen representative to the TCTV Board. The cities of Lacey, Tumwater, and Thurston County each have one representative, too. The Olympia appointee must be a City of Olympia resident.
