Biographical Information
Jeff is a lifelong resident of the Olympia area, having been born in the old Saint Peter Hospital on Olympia’s west side. He attended Griffin School until the 6th grade, and then his family relocated to the east side. A 1978 graduate of Olympia High School, Jeff feels a strong connection to Olympia.
In 1986, Kingsbury founded Capital Playhouse, operating out of the historic Capitol Theatre on 5th Avenue. While there, he became aware of issues and activities that were either impeding our downtown or fostering vitality. In 1996, the Playhouse relocated to its current home at 612 4th Avenue East, where it has enjoyed its greatest success. Jeff is a tireless advocate for the arts and youth, and has shepherded nearly 3,000 young people in their quests for success in performance.
Kingsbury is involved with a variety of community organizations ranging from several area schools to the Boys and Girls Clubs to POSSCA. He often serves as either master of ceremonies or auctioneer at their fund raising events, and is well known in the region for his gregarious nature.
He served on the board of the Olympia Downtown Association for 8 ½ years, and was the President for his last year prior to running for his Council position. His passion for our downtown and the potential that it holds is rarely paralleled. In 2007, Kingsbury and fellow Councilmember Joe Hyer were honored as Champions of Downtown by the Olympia Downtown Association.
In 2006, Kingsbury was named Citizen of the Year by the Thurston County Realtor's Association.
Jeff lives on Olympia’s west side. He enjoys traveling, gardening, skiing, and quality cinema.
