Description: In 2000, the City began a program of preventative maintenance for City streets. The focus of the program is to complete maintenance projects on streets beginning to show signs of wear before major re-construction is needed.
Every year, street conditions are evaluated and projects are selected for the streets that need the most repair. This year the City will chip seal (pave) approximately 11 miles of streets, and resurface a section of Black Lake Boulevard.
Paving began on Black Lake Boulevard on August 25, 2008. For information on how this project is progressing take a look at the updated newsletter on the right.
For more information on these projects, take a look at the newsletters listed on the right. Check the paving FAQ page to learn more about chip seal.
Why Work at Night? Because of high day time traffic volumes and the potential to cause severe back ups on to Highway 101, this work must be completed at night.
What's Next: We are ahead of schedule and the noisy phases of the project are almost complete. Paving will begin the night of Wednesday, September 3, 2008, and will continue the night of Thursday, September 4, 2008. After paving is complete, there will be two or three additional nights of considerably noisy work. This work is necessary to expose and raise the manhole covers, valves and other structures to the new road level. Please accept our apologies for this inconvenience.
Construction Impacts:
- Thank you for your patience: We realize that this project has been difficult for many residents in this area and we apologize for the disruption.
- "What are those spikes I see in the roadway on Black Lake
Boulevard?": The markers ("spikes") that you see in the roadway on Black Lake Boulevard help us find manhole covers, valves, and other structures after we pave the road. Paving for this project will start the night of Wednesday, September 3, 2008, and should be completed by the end of the week. The markers are made of rubber and will not harm your car or tires if you drive over them.
- "No Parking" Signs (where applicable): Signs will be put out two days prior to paving. All vehicles, boats, travel trailers and utility trailers must be moved off the street. If left at the time of paving, they will be towed at the owner's expense.
- Traffic Delays and/or Detours: There may be delays and/or detours. Alternate routes are encouraged.
- Watch for Flaggers: Drive carefully through the construction area and watch for flaggers.
