The Big Day has come and gone, but there's plenty still happening!
T-Shirts
T-shirts are available to everyone who volunteered for the "1000 Trees" event. Please stop by the Smith Building, 837 7th Ave. SE, to pick up your commemorative t-shirt between 8:00am and 4:00pm, Monday through Friday, beginning this Friday, April 4th until Friday, April 25th. Just stop by the Front Desk and let them know that you were a volunteer for the "1000 Trees" event.
If you have a "What's Up with Budd?" punch card, you can also get your card stamped when you pick up your t-shirt. Punch cards will also be available at the Smith Building Front Desk, if you would like to begin working toward receiving a hemp canvas shopping bag with artwork by Nicki McClure.
Organizations with regularly-scheduled meetings may contact Lucy Coffman for a group t-shirt drop-off at your next meeting; this MUST be set up at least one week in advance of the meeting.
Pots and Sod
Pots full of sod and dirt will be picked up the week following the event, March 31 - April 4. If there are pots remaining in your neighborhood after April 4, please contact us immediately so that we can remove them.
Mulching
City crews will mulch all the trees planted on March 29 throughout the month of April. Mulch is important for the protection of a young tree's root system, as well as conserving moisture and keeping the soil cool, which enhances root growth and sturdy establishment for a healthier tree. Urban Forestry staff will inspect each individual tree as well.
Watering
City crews will water the young trees weekly throughout the summer; however, if you should notice signs that your trees are thirsty, such as drooping leaves or scorched leaf edges, please be kind to your youngsters and give them an extra drink. Olympia's hot, dry summers can be very hard on young trees that are not well-established yet!
