Want the facts about reclaimed water at our Parks? Find out here. Learn that the quality of water at Capitol Lake should not be affected by the use of reclaimed water at Heritage and Marathons Parks.
While reclaimed water is higher in nitrogen and phosphorus than Olympia’s drinking water, these nutrients are readily available to plants. Reclaimed water is considered an excellent source of nitrogen and phosphorous for turf. It provides a consistent, low dosage of easily utilized nutrients.
It is important not to over-water these sites. This might cause the nitrogen to move into the lake. This is less of a risk for phosphorus, as it is not as mobile as nitrogen.
Olympia and the State Department of General Administration (GA) have a signed agreement regarding the use of reclaimed water at Heritage and Marathon Parks. In this agreement, GA agrees that they will apply reclaimed water at appropriate rates.
Irrigating Heritage and Marathon Parks with reclaimed water is safe, sensible, and sustainable.
