Rates - Wastewater - Why a Increase

Why a Rate Increase? In recent years, City staff have evaluated existing wastewater services and defined long-term needs. In 2008, we will begin implementing a more comprehensive wastewater program for the City. The program will enable us to build a wastewater infrastructure system capable of meeting the needs of the future. The 2008 rates support these efforts.

The program focuses on replacing and upgrading aging pipes and pumps, many of which were built more than 50 years ago. We are also planning and constructing several major pipe extensions. These extensions will help serve outlying areas, as well as facilitate the conversion of on-site septic systems to sanitary sewer.

Our Key Services:

  • Maintain existing pipes and pumps to ensure proper functioning of the system.
  • Design and construct new pipe systems to accommodate wastewater flow and to ensure compliance with public health and safety standards.
  • Review development proposals for compliance with City standards.
  • Plan for long-term infrastructure needs.
  • Provide customer information, education, and technical assistance for various types of wastewater services, including on-site septic systems.
  • Administer the utility (billing, planning, mapping, and quality improvements).
