Rates - Waste ReSources - Why a Increase

Why a Rate Increase?  The increase is necessary to cover our rising costs of operation and disposal so that we may continue delivering the high level of service you depend on.  The increase for garbage also covers new services planned though the new Master Plan.

Our Key Services:

  • Provide curbside pick up of residential garbage, recycling, and yard waste.
  • Pick up multi-family recycling.
  • Later in 2008 offer a collection service that combines food scraps, compostable paper, yard waste for single-family residential customers.
  • Work with multi-family complexes, such as apartment buildings and mobile home parks, to improve recycling options for residents.
  • Begin implementation of other services as described in the Master Plan.
  • Pick up garbage from businesses, multi-family complexes, schools, public agencies, and other public areas.
  • Provide customers with information, education, and technical assistance on ways to prevent waste and increase recycling.
  • Drop box services to large volume generators of waste and recycling; primarily large scale businesses and construction sites, schools, and public events.
  • Administer a centrally located Saturday yard waste drop-off site for Olympia residents.
  • Organize wood-chipping events to help maintain clean and neat neighborhoods.
  • Pick up Christmas trees at no additional cost.
  • Provide annual curbside collection of metals, appliances, tires, porcelain toilets, and sinks at no additional cost.
