Historic Preservation Volunteers
Why is preservation important?
Just imagine Olympia without the old courthouse or without the Capitol Theatre! Our buildings are a record of our people. They are a part of what makes one community different from another.
Why else is preservation important? Consider that the most environmentally sustainable building is the one that's already built. There are many reasons why preservation is critical for maintaining the spirit of our community and the protection of our environment.
The Olympia Heritage Commission advises the City Council on matters of preservation. The Commission also engages the community in understanding the environmental and cultural importance of preservation.
Help make history in Olympia by volunteering for Heritage Commission special projects such as taking an Inventory of historic homes, helping with special events, and leading walking tours. Training is provided!
