What We Do
Current Planning reviews all land use applications. During review, Planning staff works closely with neighborhood and community organizations, real estate development professionals, engineers, the fire marshal, the building official, and the urban forester.
During the review process, the Current Planning section is responsible for ensuring that land use projects adhere to Olympia Municipal Code Titles 14 (environmental review), 17 (subdivisions), and 18 (zoning and design review). These codes and regulations help protect our environmental resources; improve the character, appearance, and livability of our neighborhoods; preserve historic and cultural resources; and facilitate appropriate provisions for transportation, utilities, schools, parks, and other public needs and services consistent with the Olympia Comprehensive Plan.

Land Use Projects in Review
The City of Olympia publishes a report of all major land use applications under review for the current year. The report includes addresses, a brief project description, and the status of the application. The information is updated daily:

Please note: posting of development activity on the website is NOT intended to constitute public notice for the purpose of appeal timelines or legally required notifications.
Legal notification of land use actions occurs in three ways:
- A legal notice in the media, usually The Olympian
- Mailed notice to affected parties as defined by state and City laws
- Posting of land use action at the property site
