Walking - Great Places to Walk

Did you know that walking is good for your health and the environment.  In Washington State, 55% of air pollution is caused by motor vehicles.  About 40% of the trips we make are two miles or less - a reasonable walking distance.  Also, to prevent chronic diseases the Surgeon General recommends 30 minutes of moderate activity a day, like walking.  So take a walk - you will be surprised how far you can walk in 30 minutes or less.

Walk downtown:  Try walking downtown to City events, to shop, or have lunch.  Many neighborhoods are within walking distance to downtown.  Download our downtown walking map, with approximate walking times.  Here are some upcoming events you can walk to:
  • Salmon in the Deschutes River:  View the fish from the roadside walkway at the 5th Avenue Dam.  Learn more.
  • Tours and Events:  Find out more on the City's events page.
