Don't Let Your Charity Car Wash Pollute Our Streams!
Planning a Car Wash? Call your local Storm and Surface Water Utility first! The location of your car wash is very important, because soapy water runoff pollutes streams. By calling us, we can help you sponsor a non-polluting car wash.
City of Olympia: (360) 753-8346
City of Lacey: (360) 438-2687
City of Tumwater: (360) 754-4140
Thurston County: (360) 357-2491
Soapy Water Can Be Toxic: Soapy water from car washes may be carried by storm drains directly into Puget Sound. Soap and grime washed off cars contain chemicals that are toxic to fish and other aquatic life. Even soaps and detergents that are biodegradable or low-phosphate are harmful.
Signs Available: Once a site has been selected, we ask that you borrow our "Clean Cars, Clean Streams" sign to advertise your event and show your customers that you care about the environment.
