Classes & Activities - Salmon Steward Training

In late summer, returning adult salmon bring people to public viewing locations to watch these amazing fish on their return journey to fresh water streams and rivers to spawn.  Visitors have lots of questions about the salmon while watching them at the 5th Avenue Bridge in Olympia, Tumwater Fall Park, and McLane Creek Nature Trail.

Do you like to talk to people? Do you enjoy being outdoors and sharing your enthusiasm and knowledge?

You can become a Salmon Steward volunteer educator and answer questions and educate people about the Deschutes and McLane Creek salmon runs. Training is provided. The Deschutes salmon run is from mid-August through the end of September. The McLane Creek chum run begins in November and early December.

Trainings:

November (TBA) - McLane Creek Wild Chum Run, McLane Creek Nature Trail

Trainers include staff from the Washington State Department of Fish and Wildlife and General Administration, Cities of Olympia and Tumwater, and experienced Salmon Stewards. Other training dates will be announced.
