Construction News - Crestline Sanitary Sewer Pipe Repair
Location:
Construction on Crestline Boulevard will begin just north of Burbank Avenue and finish on 26th Avenue, just west of French Road. Download the printer friendly (PDF) Project Area map.
Project Description:
The sanitary sewer main under Crestline Boulevard has been identified as structurally unsound, and therefore a high risk for failure and the potential release of raw sewage into the environment. The project will repair approximately 2,500 feet of 8-inch sewer main using a process called Cured In Place Pipe (CIPP).
CIPP is a trenchless rehabilitation method used to repair existing pipelines. A resin-saturated felt tube is pulled through the damaged pipe. In this case, the liner will be installed through a manhole. It is then hetaed and expanded making the liner conform to the existing pipe. Next, steam is used to cure the resin and form a tight-fitting replacement pipe. This method is repeated from manhole to manhole, until all of the sewer pipe is lined. The project will not involve any roadway cutting or paving work.
Project Schedule:
- Construction start - November 9, 2009
- Construction end - mid December, 2009
Project Impacts:
The road will remain open during construction. However, you can expect some traffic delays, since the project will require the contractor to work around manholes and complete the work in sections. Once they complete work at one manhole, they will move the equipment to the next manhole until the entire length of pipeline has been repaired. A chemical odor may be present at times during this process.
