Construction News - Westside Sewer Interceptor Replacement
Paving:
Asphalt paving of the streets is completed.
Remaining Construction Work:
There are some construction tasks to finish before the project is completed. The remaining construction tasks include: some work on the sidewalk access ramps; cleaning up concrete and asphalt waste; removing gravel and other waste materials from the roadside, lawns and other areas; patching of grass; and cleaning out the storm catch basins.
Location:
West Bay Drive to Madison Avenue following the route of: West Bay Drive, Garfield Avenue, Sherman Street, Jackson Avenue, Percival Street. View the project area map.
Description:
The project replaces a major wastewater line serving West Olympia that has overflowed to Garfield Creek and contributes to problematic overflows at the West Bay Pump Station. This is the highest priority project of the Wastewater Utility.
Construction consists of installing a new sanitary sewer main and manholes in Northwest Olympia, to remedy the sewer system's lack of capacity to handle peak flows. Following installation, the streets will receive an asphalt overlay. In addition, to meet the American Disabilities Act (ADA) requrements, several intersections will receive new access ramps.
Schedule:
Construction is scheduled to begin the week of August 24th, and continue through November 2009.
