Construction News - Harrison Avenue

Project Description:

  • Road Widening: The roadway will be widened to two lanes in each direction with a center turn lane and/or median islands.
  • Bike Lanes: Bike lanes will be added on the north and south sides of the road.
  • Sidewalks and Planter Strips: Sidewalks will be added to the north and south sides of the road and separated by planter strips. 
  • Traffic Signal: A traffic signal will be added at the intersection of Harrison Avenue and Kaiser Road.
  • Utility Undergrounding: Private utilites along the project limits will be moved underground.

Location: 

This project is located on Harrison Avenue/ Mud Bay Road from Yauger Way to approximately 800 feet west of the intersection at Kaiser Road to College Station.

Project Schedule:

Survey crews have recently finished staking the existing City right-of-way.  The project design is continuing, appraisals on the larger parcels are underway and right-of-way negotiations with property owners have begun.

  • Preliminary Design and Survey Complete: Early 2009
  • Right of Way/Property Acquisition: Begins early 2009
  • Design Complete:  End of 2009
  • Advertise for Bids: Spring, 2010

Street Renaming and Addressing:

The City has annexed a portion of Thurston County along Mud Bay Road.  Beginning late in 2009, Mud Bay Road, from McPhee Road to Overhulse Road, will be renamed to Harrison Avenue and addresses will change through this corridor.
