Construction News - Wilson Street Traffic Calming

Installing a Two-lane Narrow Point and 14-foot Speed Cushions:

The Narrow Point is a small landscaped feature that will be located on Wilson Street, near Olympia Avenue.

Construction in May/June:

We plan to construct the project this spring. Our preliminary construction schedule is provided below.  Please check our website for schedule changes.

  • March, 2009: Advertise Project
  • April, 2009: Award Contract
  • May, 2009: Begin Construction
  • June, 2009: Complete Project

Taking Care of the Landscaping:

A choice was made in 2007 to include landscaping in the Narrow Point that will be installed near Olympia Avenue.  The City has limited staff to care for these features, and the consensus in 2007 was that people living near the Narrow Point would maintain the landscaping.  The City will require our contractor to care for the plantings for one year following installation. After that the neighborhood will be responsible for periodic care  of the landscaping.

Background:

In 2007, City staff  worked with neighborhood residents on a general plan for traffic calming devices on Wilson Street.  The devices selected in 2007 are a two-lane narrow point and two, 14-foot speed cushions. The City plans to install these devices as part of our Neighborhood Traffic Management Program. We have completed our design and are ready for construction.
