Olympia, WA. On March 22, 2008, the City of Olympia will host a public meeting to discuss a proposal to rezone several parcels on the isthmus between Capitol Lake and Budd Inlet. The meeting will be held from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm at the Olympia Center, 222 Columbia Street NW, Olympia Washington. Meeting announcement flyer (pdf file).
The current zone, Urban Waterfront, allows either residential or commercial uses to be developed. The proposed zone, Urban-Waterfront-Housing limits development above the first floor to residential uses. Increasing housing in the downtown area is an important Council goal so that more people will have opportunity to live, work, learn, shop and play in downtown Olympia. Another component of the proposal is to modify the maximum allowable building height from 35 feet to between 65 and 90 feet.
This is an opportunity to learn more about the proposal and participate in a public conversation about the future of downtown Olympia.
