City Water Meets or Exceeds all State and Federal Drinking Water Standards
Great news, in 2007, Olympia’s water met or exceeded all State and Federal drinking water standards. On Tuesday, May 6th, the City will mail nearly 18,000 copies of the Annual Drinking Water Quality Report. This report is an annual requirement under the Safe Drinking Water Act. All drinking water utility customers will receive the report and it is also available online for those customers who do business or visit our City.
Rich Hoey, Olympia’s Director of Water Resources notes that this is an important document as it relays the status of Olympia’s drinking water. Hoey says, “Our mission is to provide and protect nature’s water for a healthy community. This report is a chance for us to show the community how we’re doing and to share specific water quality test results with our customers.”
Olympia’s report includes information about:
- Olympia's Water Sources
- Drinking Water Contaminants
- Important Health Information
- 2006 Water Quality Test Results
- Risks to Water Sources
- Protecting Water Quality
The report also includes a glossary of water quality terms and a list of additional drinking water resources.
State and Federal drinking water rules require community water systems like Olympia to produce and distribute an annual report on drinking water quality and safety to customers by July 1. Olympia is releasing the report in conjunction with National Drinking Water Week, May 4 – 10, 2008. The primary purpose of this report is to inform consumers about their drinking water. This report, also known as the Consumer Confidence Report in the federal law affects 55,000 water systems, and the information in the reports reaches some 248 million people nationwide.
