New Organics Program:
The City of Olympia Waste ReSources launches its new Organics Program July 7, 2008. The new program enhances the existing yard waste collection to include all food waste and food-soiled paper.
During the month of July, the City will deliver countertop pails and educational literature to existing yard waste and organics customers. New subscribers will get carts and pails as they sign up. The delivery of materials will be spread over 4 weeks and is based on a customer’s garbage day.
To help the City identify homes needing pails and literature, customers with a bright green organics cart are encouraged to leave them at the curb, or in a visible location during the weeks described below. Only one pail will be delivered to each home and they are not available for pick up.
Deliveries are set to coincide with a regular collection period:
- Tuesday garbage customers the week of July 7
- Thursday garbage customers the week of July 14
- Wednesday garbage customers the week of July 21
- Friday garbage customers the week of July 28
Customers do not have to wait for their pail and literature to participate. Information is available on the City’s website to help residents understand what is and is not compostable. Most important will be to keep all plastics out of the bright green cart.
Citizens can call Public Works at (360) 753-8588, or visit our organics and yard waste page for more information about this new program.
